What is AyyaProfessor.com?
AyyaProfessor is a free online platform that allows Lebanese students to rate their college professors anonymously. Users can easily log in using their .edu email address and ‘grade’ their professors according to a set of predetermined criteria and see the ratings posted by others. These virtual grades are a reflection of what the students are really thinking. They can be useful for both students, professors and universities. The site also includes a blog section featuring an array of articles covering different academic, cultural and entertainment topics.

What is the purpose of this site?
AyyaProfessor.com aims to promote academic transparency and assist students, parents and faculty members in making informed educational decisions.

Who can rate professors?
We surely prefer that users only rate professors whom they have taken at least one course with. However, it is practically unfeasible for us to verify whether the raters have had firsthand experience with a certain professor or not. And this is why you should not take the ratings spotted on the website as a final verdict.

How do I rate a professor?
We’ve tried to make the interface as user-friendly as possible. All you need to do is search for your professor’s name on the home page to add your grade. If your professor is not yet listed, you can add them to our list. However, they won’t be added to our official database until we’ve conducted the necessary verifications.

How are the final professor grades compiled?
Professor’s final score is expressed in the form of a letter grade and compiled in a GPA-like fashion based on 3 out of the 6 predetermined categories. The 3 categories are: Knowledgeability (How knowledgeable they are in the subject matter) Clarity (How clear are they when explaining new material) Helpfulness (Do they reply to student’s emails, are they available during their office hours) These are essential traits for each professor to acquire. When a professor is knowledgeable, clear, and helpful, they are bound to receive excellent grades. Who knows, they might even end up making it in the Honor Society. You can see our grading rubric below: Letter grades & percentage A 100% — 90% A- 89% — 82% B+ 81% — 78% B 77% — 71% B- 70% — 67% C+ 66% — 63% C 62% — 56% C- 55% — 52% D+ 51% — 48% D 47% — 44% D- 43% — 40% F < 39% GPA grading scale A 4 A- 3.7 B+ 3.3 B 3 B- 2.7 C+ 2.3 C 2.0 C- 1.7 D+ 1.3 D 1 D- .7 F 0

What can I do if see a rating that I think is unfair and/or should be reviewed?
You have the option to flag any ratings you consider to be fishy. Once you do so, we will make sure to go over the rating once again for review and take it from there. But please make sure there is a valid reason for flagging a grade, which includes violating our terms.

How do you make sure the ratings are accurate?
We understand your concerns professors. Yes, we know poorly performing students tend to blame the professor. This is why we have implemented 5 different filtrations to help us keep the grades reputable and beneficial for both, students and professors. A brief explanation: 1) Right before grading any professor or university, there is a short, sumarized list of the main do's and don'ts to help the grader (student) understand the guidelines of providing a helpful grade. After reading the list, they are able to continue on with grading. Here is the summary list: Do’s: Be honest & objective Assess professor’s ability to teach Negative grades must be beneficial Proof read your writing Don'ts: Use "definitive" language Identify yourself or other students State your opinion as a fact Rate yourself, professors You might say that students will most likely ignore this and still give a “bad” grade. And you are right, which brings us to the second filtration. 2) We have worked on an algorithm which detects any profanities or words being used out-of-contexts. This algorithm is dynamic and always learning from each new grade being submitted on the site. We can also enter words or phrases manually to help the algorithm better detect any future mishaps. An example of how we have implemented this algorithm; While a student is entering their feedback, if there are any profanity words or phrases which conflict with our site guidelines and precisely the list of “don’ts”, the student will be automatically notified and can not submit their grade. 3) Students must enter their university's .edu email address to be able to submit their grade. So not anyone with an email address or any college student with a different university .edu email can submit a grade. The student must have the credentials of the specific university or the institution which professor teaches at. Additionally, a user is unable to grade a professor more than once which causes inflation in professor’s final grade. 4) List of do’s and don’ts and algorithms might deter some of the mischievous students, but others are determined to slander a professor. So our solution to that is one of the best filtrations. Human moderators. Moderators will double check the student’s grade and comments to make sure it doesn’t conflict with our site terms and guidelines. Once they have checked the grade, they will approve it manually to be published on the site. 5) We all make mistakes, even the great Steve Harvey made a mistake recently by crowning the wrong Miss Universe. So just incase one of the moderators misses a “bad” grade, there is a flag button for each grade on the site. So other users reviewing the grades can help by simply clicking and flagging the grade which might have an adverse effect to the professor’s final grade. We will review the grade once more to make sure it has been truly publish by mistake by one of the moderators. If so, the grade will be immediately removed from the site. All review-based platforms like Amazon or Zomato are not perfect, because humans tend to be objective when giving evaluations, but we try our best to make sure the grades on ayyaprofessor.com are genuine and useful for both professors and students. Everyday we apply new methods to keep ayyaprofessor.com credible and beneficial for everyone. This is why we we are constantly listening to our users and take any action necessary to make sure they enjoy using our platform and benefiting from it.

Can I get my listing removed from your site?
We prefer not to remove any professor listing from the website. This is chiefly an online platform for students to share their experience freely. However, if you wish deactivate your listing, you can contact us and we will deactivate your listing. *Please note: Your name will remain on the website, but all grades will be removed and students will not be able to submit grades.
-
How is my final grade on the site calculated?
Your final grade is the cumulative average of all the ratings received by students based on 3 categories, which are: Knowledgeable, Helpful, and Clarity. If you teach in two different institutions, you will have a standalone profile for each so that the grades can be more significant.
